Adult Education

We believe that Jesus' mission through the Church is far greater than gathering converts; he is establishing a Kingdom filled with disciples (learners/apprentices) who will faithfully and joyfully follow him throughout eternity.

Toward this end, we offer adult education classes before the celebration services on Sunday. While the study of God's Word takes place in small groups and other areas of the church's life, these classes play a key role in bringing maturity and depth through serious study.

Classes for Spring 2012
9:15 - 10:15 am, Jan 29 - May 6

Hearing God’s Voice
With George Ainsworth and Lynn Ainsworth
  • We worship a living God, One who draws glory to himself by actively governing the world for His purposes.  We have a relationship with God through Christ and the Holy Spirit, and thus we believe He speaks to His people: regularly, directly, personally, and poignantly.  He speaks through his Word, his Spirit, and his Church.  This class will go beyond theological concepts and help people to grow in personal, daily, ongoing interaction with the Living God who loves them and died for them so He can have fellowship with them forever AND now.  All those who are thirsty are invited (Isaiah 55:1).

Biblical Study - John 13-17
With Geoff Maurer and Gary Lafferty
  • This study focuses on Jesus’ “Upper Room” teaching, given on the final night before his arrest and crucifixion.  Deceptively simple in language, the Gospel of John explores some of the most profound theological and philosophical issues in the New Testament.  We will study these chapters in depth for their significance to our mission and spiritual formation.  Our aim will be to know Him more deeply and bring him increasing glory with our lives as a result.

We’re All Apologists
With Anjeanette Roberts   (Jan 29 – March 4)
  • Whether in casual conversation or more poignant dialogue, whether with friends, relatives, neighbors, co-workers or strangers, as Christians we encounter many times and many different situations where we face opportunities to give an account of our Christian hope or a defense of our Christian faith.  So in these instances are we making the most of the opportunity? Are we asking the right questions? Offering thought-filled answers? Helping to remove obstacles for a deeper, authentic understanding and faith? Let's pursue the "What? Where? When? and How?" of Christian apologetics and address some of the questions we most often face in our lives today together.   [Mark 12:19 -31, 1 Peter 3:15-16].

Three Worldviews
With Dan Gritsko, Bob Talbott, Patrick Flynn
[Beginning in March as a class distinct from but related to Apologetics]
  • This teaching team will introduce and evaluate Islam, Eastern Religious thought, and Secularism through a lens of Biblical revelation.  The purpose is not to tear down, but to understand and respond with love and truth.
